Protecting Your IT System

Protecting Your IT System

Back when computer technology was in its infancy, most people believed automation and computerisation would revolutionise the way we work and do business. And it did, but not in the way a lot of us expected. Computers were supposed to be able to take over a lot of the work, and leave us with either increased leisure time or an exponential increase in unemployment, depending on whether you were looking at it as a ‘glass half full’ or a ‘glass half empty’ person. Of course, for the most part this hasn’t been the case- we still have as much to do as before, we just do it more efficiently, and the arrival of computation provided a thriving job market in IT services.

it support services

These days it’s almost impossible for a business to entirely eschew the allure of computer technology, and any business that tried would find severe problems communicating with customers, suppliers and other businesses.

cloud storage for small businesses

Of course, this means that everyone now needs to make sure they have good IT support, whether on- or off-site. But there are certain common sense rules for best practice, which can help you avoid problems yourself before you have to get them involved.

There are two pieces of advice in particular which are utterly invaluable – and they apply as much to the home user as the business user. First of all, and this shouldn’t even really need to be said in this day and age – always back everything up. An off-site cloud solution can be the best way to do this, because even if your whole system goes down your data is still safe. Which awful possibility brings us to the second, and perhaps most important – allow for redundancies in your system in order to avoid creating a single point of failure. Something will always go wrong, and it’s vital to make sure the rest of your system can pick up the slack when it does.

For everything else, and even for help with these, there is Ghost. Whether you want a fully-managed IT support service or a pay-as-you-go ad hoc model, we can help with all your IT needs. Cloud storage, security, ensuring compliance with regulation- whatever you need, Ghost can do it for you.

Contact us today to discuss your business IT requirements, and we’ll take the tech strain and let you get back to worrying about your bottom line. Call 01279 800039, or fill in our online contact form.

Why Are Remote IT Services More Efficient Than Onsite Support?

If you’re the owner of a business. You’ll understand how you’re always looking for ways to reduce spending and increase efficiency to make the company the best it possibly can be. One way you can dramatically reduce spending within your business is by switching your IT services from being onsite to remote. The team at Ghost, cyber security experts, have collated a list of benefits of switching to remote IT services.

What are remote IT services?

Remote IT services does pretty much what it says on the tin: fixes, maintains and provides other IT support remotely via the internet. Your technician will use a tool to log into your machine and navigate their way around your system. This means that they are able to get to the direct route to the problem and resolve the issue in a matter of minutes.

Efficiency

There’s no two ways about it, using remote IT services is generally more efficient. The time that would have been spent travelling to the issue is actually spent diagnosing and resolving the problem via the internet.

Cost effective

Remote IT services are inarguably more cost effective than having an onsite support team. Why? Because most of the time with remote support, you only pay when you have an issue. Whereas if you have an onsite team. You have to pay them to be present even if there are no issues.

You are not limited by location

One of the best benefits of remote IT services is that you and your technician are not limited by geographical location. This means you have the opportunity to enquire and find the best value for money.

How can we help?

Here at Ghost, IT support Essex, we are able to recognise that a general remote support system doesn’t suit everyone. That’s why we have not one but three solutions in order to suit your business model:

· Fixed term support: You don’t have to wait for something to go wrong before you can take advantage of our comprehensive and professional IT support services, with our fixed term support contracts.

· Pay as you go: We know things can go wrong from time to time and often at the most inconvenient times. If this happens to you, our friendly team of IT professionals can help you get back on track.

· Networks and devices: Alternatively, get the most out of your IT equiptment from the outset with our end-to-end installation service. Suitable for a single PC or a complete network. We can help deliver the right installation.

Keep All Your Passwords Secure with 39 Degress Support Essex

We’re not the first – and we won’t be the last – to emphasize the importance of cyber-safety. And while we can guarantee most of you will agree it’s importance, putting it into practice can be difficult for individuals around the globe.

According to latest reports, nearly 3 out of 4 individuals use duplicate passwords online; many of which have not been changed in five years or more. Unsurprisingly, about 40 percent of those taking part in the survey said they had experience a “security incident” in the past year – involving hacking, having passwords stolen or fraud.

With two out of every five people being hacked, it’s time to do something different i.e. changing your password!

After speaking to our in-house cyber security experts, here are 5 tips for keeping your passwords safe this year:

Avoid using personal information. It may be tempting to use the name of your pet or child as a password, but what if the hacker is someone a little closer to home? Often, a hacker could be someone who knows you – or has found out information from your Facebook. Therefore, using personal information such as names or dates will be their first guess.

Don’t use common passwords. Believe it or not, some of the most popular passwords are “123456”, “qwerty” and of course, “password”. Stay well away from these examples – if not you will have hackers leaping at the chance to get in your computer.

● Stay away from any single words or a pair of words. Hackers use software that can test every word in the dictionary for a short amount of time. Don’t think you can fool them with common substitutions such as a “5” for an “S”, hackers and their software are wise to any tricks.

● Try long passwords. American security research organisation, SANS Institute, recommend passwords that are at least 15 characters long. However, a password with 11 or 12 characters is sufficient for individuals looking to protect their important information.

Change your passwords often. Changing your passwords too regularly can make them difficult to remember but it’s important to change them occasionally. An easy way to keep track of when you changed your passwords last is to update them at the beginning or end of the year – and add this onto your password i.e. GsOgQlLoNqB522018

Deck The Halls With Cyber-Security!

Did you know last year Christmas was ruined for thousand of gamers? And why would that be? The self-proclaimed Lizard Squad. A group of hackers. Brought down the networks of both Xbox Live and Sony Playstation – ruining gameplay for 160 million gamers around the world.

Cyber security experts are expecting similar attacks to hit a number of retailers and companies across the globe this year. At 39 Degress Support Essex, we have put together this handy Security guide to prepare you and your business in the event of any hackings this Christmas:

Delete suspicious emails or texts – Unfortunately, most hackings begin with a simple email or even text message. Which contain a link or a document containing malware. If you were to open this document or click on the link, you will allow these extremely dangerous viruses access to your computer. As an IT security expert, we ask that if you don’t trust any of these messages, you delete them instead.

Change all your passwords – It’s the same old story that you’re bound to have heard before, but we’re going to tell you again! To keep your online accounts secure. Your passwords need to be complex and changed regularly. You must also keep all of your passwords secret from everyone. Particularly, if you have very sensitive data.

Go incognito – One of everyone’s biggest fears is using location-based websites and applications and then being tracked! However, most phones and computers will allow you to browse the internet from an incognito mode. While it is not guaranteed to keep you completely safe. It can be another defense for your cybersecurity efforts.

Make sure all your data is secure when online shopping – For those who don’t fancy trekking out into the snow for a shopping trip, online shopping is a lot more ideal. With lots of details being shared over the internet. It’s important to have an effective and thorough encryption system like the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). At 39 Degress Solutions Essex. We use a military-grade advanced encryption to ensure all your data is kept secure.

The Importance of Computer Security with 39 Degress Support Essex

November 30th is Computer Security Day – an important day for those at 39 Degress Support in Essex who want to share the importance of keeping your computers secure.

Unfortunately, these days computers, smartphones and tablets make up an important component of our everyday lives. Not only have they become vital to our everyday living, but they have made communication easier and more efficient. However, these technological advancements have brought about a number of concerns about their security and our privacy.

Started in 1988, Computer Security Day aims to raise awareness of the security risks and our general computer security. So what exactly can you do to protect your computers?

1. Switch Off

Ask yourself, “do I need to be connected to the internet at all times?” For most of you, the answer will be a resounding “yes!” but leaving your internet switched on could be an easy way to tempt hackers. Unfortunately, hackers exploit the “always on” connection option so switching off your router from time to time can put them off.

2. Protect Your Router

As an entry point for hackers, you need to make sure your router is protected by a firewall. A firewall is a piece of software or hardware that only allows “good” data and connections through it.

3. Install Anti-Virus Software

Don’t think about leaving your computer out! As well as a firewall for your router and computer, your computer will need some anti-virus software to prevent dodgy files from attacking and stealing your information. Once you have your antivirus system, be sure to keep it updated regularly to scan for viruses on your computer!

4. Update Your Computer

I know what you’re thinking… “but updating my computer takes too much time!” Well, it may be annoying but you must check your computer for updates to keep up to date with changes to your operating system. Without updating your computer, it may be compromised should you not install the proper updates.

5. Keep Passwords Safe, Random and Hard to Guess

When you sign up for a website, how often do you use the same old password you have been using since you were 15? Well, it’s probably time to start changing it! Unfortunately, you can never been certain how the websites store their data and so if they were to be hacked, your password could be out there. By constantly changing your passwords and using a different password for each site, you minimise the damage hackers could cause.

Still not sure whether your computer is entirely safe? Why not get in touch with 39 Degress Solutions Essex!

As one of the top IT companies in Essex, 39 Degress provide a number of IT services to help your business use your devices more effectively – including VOIP Essex, network support and business IT support. Protecting your computers from damage with 39 Degress Support Essex

Moving out of your small office can be an exciting process. Until you think about moving all the expensive IT equipment and devices. Alongside desks, filing cabinets and desk chairs, your computers, servers and even keyboards and mice will need proper protection during the move.

While not a removal company. Ghost Services are providers of IT support in Essex. So we understand the negative affects damaged equipment can have on a business. With this in mind, and using past experience. Our team put together a checklist for moving your technology from your old office to your brand new one.

● Make sure all your files are backed up before moving

There’s nothing worse than your computer being knocked about in the process of moving and losing all your important documents. However, this is exactly what could happen if you forget to keep a backup of all your documents. At 39 Degress Solutions, we recommend to all of our customers that they keep a copy of all your work on a portable hard drive. Or even a cloud system. Not only will you know everything is kept safe, but you will have access to all your documents when and wherever you want. Meaning you can work from home should moving be delayed!

● Pack your computer back into its original box

To avoid any initial damage or loss of files. Make sure your computer’s power is turned off at the monitor and box. Then disconnect it from the power source. Once you have turned off your computer, you will be able to dismantle it. This means unplugging any and all cords going into your computer. If you’re new to dismantling computers, it may help to label all of the cords with masking tape before you wind them up. Tie them and place them into the storage container. Make sure you keep them in the box you’re packing your computer into to avoid losing important wires!

● Store computer safely during the time of the move

You may be moving into your new office space but there may be no time to unpack straight away. If this is the case, keep your computer out of reach from moisture, humidity and dust in this new environment. Any kind of dust, moisture and humidity could damage your computer’s hard drive. Meaning you could potentially damage the computer and lose any files.

As one of the top IT Companies in Essex, we can not only assist you and your business during times of IT struggle. Our team can also help with office IT moves. Assisting in the protection of your computers both physically and internally.

Setting Up VoIP in Your New Office in 2018

Are you celebrating the new year by moving to a brand new office? Well, Ghost Services have the perfect technology systems for your brand new office – VoIP Getting you ready for a new year of business.

Unlike old phone systems that can be expensive and difficult to setup. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology offers you the chance to make phone calls from their computer using a broadband internet connection.

At 39 Degress Support Essex, our IT experts have listed the benefits of using VoIP , compared to other traditional telephone methods.

● Increased Flexibility and Mobility

Not only does using this system reduce your phone bills. It enables your staff to integrate software programs such as emails and remote conferencing over the internet via telephone.

Increased Mobility

VoIP users can also bring their adapters with them anywhere they go. Meaning they can hold conversations at venues that have internet connection. This increase in mobility can help individuals who are always on the move. For example those who travel a lot during working hours.

Increased Productivity

Believe it or not, VoIP also increases the productivity of your organisation.  Allowing your employees to multi-task without any interruptions. The systems allow users to attach documents, conduct virtual meetings and share data while video conferencing.

Easy to Install, Use and Troubleshoot

While it may sound complex, VoIP actually requires little technical knowledge. In fact, it’s easy installation process. And the mobility of the system makes the system preferable over traditional telephones. For example, there is no longer the need for separate cabling. Unlike with traditional methods. This scalability makes it easy to add new components to the VoIP system without any hassle.

If you’re still not sure of the benefits of using a VoIP system, why not contact 39 Degress Support in Essex?
